So, this past weekend marked Easter Sunday and my 41st birthday. It’s so weird how a whole year can slip by in a blink of an eye. Last year was the big “Wow, I’m 40!” birthday complete with a party thrown by my awesome husband. This year it was more like, “Wait, it’s my birthday?”
But still, I am another year older and another year wiser. So, in that spirit I thought I would pass along some important things I have learned. Yes, internet, I am passing along my wisdom…...
I eat pretty healthy and I work out. I could be skinnier if I ate less and worked out more. But I’d rather eat chocolate and wear a tankini.
I refuse to play “mommy wars”. You know, that game where you pretend that you’re the perfect mom with perfect kids (“Oh, my Billy reads three hours a day and eats every green vegetable, blah blah blah….”). My kids aren’t perfect, and, God knows, neither am I. Perfection is overrated. Being real is much more interesting.
I also don’t play “housewife wars”. I’m not Martha Stewart. And really, who wants to hang out with her?
There is nothing better than seeing the people you love happy. There is nothing more important than being there for them when they’re not.
Bangs are a forty one year old girls best friend.
My name is Jen, and I’m a people pleaser. Currently in recovery. It took me a long time to realize that you can’t be everywhere all the time, you can’t please everyone, and it’s okay to, “No.”
You’re never too old to follow your dreams. Especially when you have an amazing, supportive family behind you.
I am so happy to be another year older. I could not be more blessed. I thank God every day for John, my boys, my family and friends. Part of getting older is realizing how lucky you truly are!
And because every post is better with pictures, here are a few recent ones that have made me smile.

And I love these that John took of Max and Alex with their good friends Jen and Grant at the library.
